Photo Catchup

It has been a while since match photos have been updated so this is a catchup.  Please enjoy.

U14 vs Lomond (28th September 2008)

The U14 team won 18-14 away to Lomond.

Minis vs Kilmarnock (28th September 2008)

The Minis travelled to Kilmarnock and played two matches at P3/P4/P5 and P6/P7.

Minis & U14 vs Lomond (5th October 2008)

The Minis played Loch Lomond this weekend with several matches at P1-P3, P4/P5 and P6/P7 levels.

Meanwhile the U14's had a rematch against Loch Lomond who were looking to recover from their defeat the previous week.  Lomond eventually won a heated battle 0-24.

U16 vs Greenock (5th October 2008)

The U16 squad played Greenock Wanderers in a league match and were beaten by a better rugby team but a poorer set of players who resorted to bullying the Clydebank players in the tunnel as they left the field, a feature all too common at this level.

Minis vs Helensburgh (12th October 2008)

Clydebank joined up with the Loch Lomond Minis to play at Helensburgh and managed to filed teams at P4, P5 and P6/P7 levels.  The teams did well against the hosts Helensburgh who were great hosts although Garnock, who were also present, chose not to play the Clydebank/Lomond P4 teams.

U14 vs Helensburgh (12th October 2008)

The Clydebank U14 squad took on Helensburgh and won 8-18.

Weekend Update (21st September 2008)

All the youth teams bused it up to Oban this weekend.  The U16 team played the Argyll district squad but failed to overcome the travel and lost out 42-5 with the only score coming from James Drummond.

The S1/S2 squad played a mix of Oban and surrounding clubs but struggled to come to terms with the more structured game at this level losing 12 tries to 5.  TO overcome this training has started on Tuesday nights for the S1/S2 squad from 5:30 to 6:30pm at Whitecrook.  Tries were scored by Greg Layden (4) and Chris Hunt (1).  Next week the team play Loch Lomond.

The mini section also played a mix of Oban and Mull two teams consisting of P1/P4 and P5/P6.  The teams had a mix of wins and loses but plenty of tries were scored.  Next week the Minis travel to Kilmarnock.

Photos of all these matches can be viewed here.

Weekend Update (14th September 2008)

This weekend saw a festival of rugby at Whitecrook with over 100 players from P1 to U16 taking part in matches.

Next week will be just as busy when all the youth teams travel to Oban.  A bus will leave Whitecrook at 10:15 on Sunday 21st September.  All players should be there for 10am.

The U16 team narrowly missed out on beating Uddingston and showed how they have improved enormously over the close season.  The final result was 19-26 with tries from Jack McCombe, Liam Conlin and Matthew Baxter.

Photos of the match can be viewed here.

The S1/S2 squad played their first match against Paisley and with the help of some players from Paisley to make up the numbers they managed to sneak a win with two tries from Greg Layden and two conversions from Dylan Docherty.  With 3pts for a try and 1pt for a conversion at this level the score was 11-10 to Clydebank.

Photos of this match can be viewed here.

The mini section also played Paisley with two matches consisting of P1/P4 and P5/P6.

Photos of these matches can be viewed here for P1/P4 and here for P5/P6.

U16 Beat Paisley 12-7 (31st August 2008)

The U16's faced a large Paisley squad who looked more menacing than they actually were.  With the team having to recover from the loss of key players they went into the match with a renewed belief in themselves and proceeded to dominate the match.  With tries from Douglas Vallance-Nairn and David Kirkwood and a conversion from Jack McCombe, Clydebank proved to be the better side on the day.   ....more

Mini Update

It has been a while since there was any update on the Mini rugby and in that time we have done quite a lot.  The following is a summary of what has been going on.

18th April

The Minis travelled to Helensburgh for their first tournament and had a great day.  We fielded three age groups of P1-P3, P4-P5 and P6-P7.  All teams competed well with the P4-P5 being the most successful on the day.  (Click on the photos to go to the photo gallery)

18th May

Local club Loch Lomond visited Clydebank for a match although due to a lack of numbers the teams were a mix of players from both clubs.  Two matches were played.  (Click on the photos to go to the photo gallery)

1st June

A follow up from the earlier fixture against Lomond was a similar affair with two mixed matches being played.  (Click on the photos to go to the photo gallery)

8th June

The season has ended and a fun day was organised to allow the kids to wind down and let everyone have some fun.  A number of games were played by three groups with the top three from each group receiving prizes and medals although everyone did go away with a party bag and medal.  (Click on the photos to go to the photo gallery)

Upcoming Mini Dates

Sunday 13th April will be a training day starting at 12 noon.  If you don't already have a gum shield then please see Gordon McCombe to receive your free one.

Sunday 20th April will be a tournament at Helensburgh.  This is likely to be a long day as the tournament starts at 11:30am.  All players should meet at Whitecrook for 10:15am as we will leave no later than 10:30am.  Again we would ask parents to come along and provide transport if possible.  We would also propose that each player bring a pack lunch and some drinks (preferably water) with them in addition to warm clothing to wear between matches.  There are a number of clubs attending and so we expect there to be several matches for each age group.

At the moment all dates beyond the 20th April will consist of training although we will endeavour to seek out fixtures.

Weekend Update (6th April 2008)

The Mini Section travelled to Fort Matilda at the weekend to play Greenock Wanderers and Waysiders/Drumpellier.

We fielded three squads consisting of P2-P4, P5 and P6-P7.

The coaches and parents all enjoyed the day out and the kids scored plenty of tries which makes it enjoyable for all.

The hospitality of Greenock Wanderers was exceptional and a big thank is due to them for organizing the day.

Mini Match Sunday 6th April

We have another match arranged at Greenock Wanderers this weekend and will be looking for transport for all the kids.

There will be matches involving Greenock, Clydebank and Waysiders.  This will involve a number of matches at each age group.

The matches will kick off about 1pm at Fort Matilda and will likely run until 2 to 3pm.

We need all the help we can to get the kids to Greenock and will need help from as many people as we can.  Please let Gordon McCombe (07812 582775) know if you can make it.

Weekend Update (30th March 2008)

The Midi U15 section played Lenzie away this weekend and managed to turn in one of their best performances of the year even though they didn't manage to score.  Playing against a well drilled and experienced Lenzie team has proven a difficult task in the past but the squad showed they are improving and managed to restrain the quick Lenzie backs with excellent defensive tackling.

Meanwhile the Mini section managed two things this weekend that the seniors didn't and that was to play a match and do it against Paisley who travelled to Whitecrook.

This was the first match for the Mini section and marks a major step forward in our development.  Excellent work by Jamie Baxter, Gordon Spence, Robert Hendry, David Findlay, Alan Bain and Euan McQuarrie who refereed made sure the day was a great success.

These events would be even better if we managed to get some more senior members along to help and support.

Although the kids didn't win they were excited about playing their first match and did manage to score some tries.

P6 - P7 Age Group

P3 - P5 Age Group

U15 Lose Against Cowal (17th February 2008)

The U15's lose away to Cowal but receive the points due to Cowal fielding over age players.  A single try from Liam Conlin was the only score for Clydebank but good effort all round from the rest of the players.

U15 Lose Against Waysiders (20th January 2008)

The U15's lose to a bigger and older Waysiders/Drumpellier team but come away with the result as Waysiders forfeited the match due to their use of overage players.   ....more

Photos of the match can be viewed here.

CLYDEBANK PLAYER PRESENTS AWARD TO WARRIORS PLAYER

Douglas Vallance-Nairn is a stalwart of the Clydebank U15 back line and a fervent supporter of the Glasgow Warriors team.  On the back of his support for the Warriors Douglas was given the honour of presenting the POTM award on Sunday to the Glasgow Warriors & Scotland player John Barclay.  The presentation took place at Firhill after the Warriors v Biarritz match.

Douglas did his bit for Clydebank Rugby Club when he wore his club shirt while presenting the award to John.  This helps to promote the club and especially make people aware of the youth side of the club which Douglas is a major part of.

Perhaps one day Douglas or players like him who come through the ranks at Clydebank will develop to the point that they are on the receiving end of the same award.  Douglas and his team mates certainly have the potential and have an excellent opportunity not so readily available to earlier generations of players at Clydebank.

Mini Rugby Holiday Break

The Mini Rugby will take a break over the Christmas period with Sunday 9th December being the last of 2007.  Training will restart on Sunday 13th January.

The coaches would like to wish all the kids a Merry Christmas and hope Santa brings you all some good rugby related presents.

U15 Game on Sunday 9th December Against Cartha Cancelled

The U15's were due to play Cartha this weekend but the game has been cancelled and training will take place instead starting at 1pm at Whitecrook.

U15 Lose Against East Kilbride (25th November 2007)

The U15's lost to a East Kilbride 10-15 in a close match that neither team dominated.  The Clydebank boys played well but failed to turn their possession into points when it counted.   ....more

Photos of the match can be viewed here.

U15 Lose Against Hamilton (18th November 2007)

A gritty performance against a very good Hamilton squad was just not enough with the final result ending up 0-43 for Hamilton.   ....more

Photos of the match can be viewed here.

U15 Win Against Cumbernauld (11th November 2007)

The U15's beat Cumbernauld in a see saw game that kept the spectators on the edge of their seats and leaping for joy at the final whistle.   ....more

Photos of the match can be viewed here.

Mini Rugby Update 11th November 2007

The SRU visited Whitecrook this week in the form of Kenny Murray the Regional Development Manager.  Kenny put the kids through their paces and introduced some exercises that the coaches can adapt in the coming weeks to teach the kids how to play the game.

We are hoping to take part in a tournament in the coming weeks and will let everyone know as soon as possible.
